Orchids, traditionally the exclusive province of the wealthy specialist, are now grown and enjoyed in homes and greenhouses around the world. The myth that orchids are impossibly difficult to grow is gradually being dispelled as nurseries offer a wider choice of plants for all situations, and as accurate, no-nonsense information on their culture becomes available in books and magazines.
This book is dedicated to this trend and addresses itself principally to the beginner who needs down to earth practical advice on a subject that is too often clouded in mystique.
Orchids for Everyone has been compiled in two parts. Part One begins with a look at the botanical features of orchids, their evolution, distribution, and the history of their cultivation. It is dominated, however, by an extensive practical section that explains in clear language and by the use of many photographs and detail drawings everything a beginner needs to know. Part two is a guide to the major groups of orchids suitable for beginners and amateur growers. Each section contains specific cultural advice and features a selection of orchids recommended for trouble-free enjoyment.
